DUST2 to host Phase 1 Trail Fundraiser with Motel SoCo

On Wednesday June 14th, DUST2, the Town of Pagosa Springs and the Archuleta School District (ASD) met to discuss the hill behind the High School which earlier in the year became unstable causing it to slide. The ASD made DUST2 and the Town of Pagosa Springs (TOPS) aware that this hillside poses a direct threat to the integrity of the school and that it would need to be stabilized in order to prevent damage to the building. This process will require that earth be removed from the unstable hill and piled over the newly completed Phase I Trail. As a result the opening of the new trail will need to be pushed back until the hill can be stabilized.
We are committed to working with our partners- the Town of Pagosa Springs and the ASD- to complete this project and get kids out on this trail! Phase 1 Trail builder, Tony Boone, has committed to lead the re-building of the damaged trail and feels that there is potential for some sweet new lines! We will continue to work toward the successful completion of Phase 1; the start of our youth cycling team; and, our plans for Phase 2.
On another note, DUST2 is excited to have been awarded the Ride The Rockies (RTR) Community Grant for it’s youth cycling team which starts this August! Additionally, we are keeping our eye toward Phase 2 and researching eligibility criteria for a Colorado Parks and Wildlife State Trails Program! This grant would provide both resources toward the trail construction costs and education for our DUST2 trail builders. We are excited at the prospect these opportunities represent and look forward to the great things to come!

DUST2 will post updates from the Archuleta School District and the Town of Pagosa Springs as they become available on it’s Facebook Page, website and via email blasts.

To show its appreciation to these partners, and in lieu of it’s first back yard race series event, DUST2 will be hosting a fundraiser to help defray the costs of the re- route. Please join us Saturday July 1 for an action- packed bike-ride-log-carrying-tire-dragging-balloon- launching-American Ninja-style elimination series for individuals or teams hosted by Motel SoCo. After the races, enjoy the music of Brooks Linder while you refuel with top notch BBQ from Shooters and Shenanigans and cold beer from Riff Raff Brewing Company!
Admission is $20.00 for adults and $10.00 for kids. For more details, visit: http://www.dustx2.com
